Mazarin Desk From The 17th Century

- A 17th-century Mazarin desk crafted from a variety of woods: oak and softwood for the frame; violet wood for the diamond-patterned marquetry on the front and top; rosewood for the veneer on the side panels, the back panel, and the stretcher; sycamore for the stringing inside; and walnut for the legs.

- The front features two perpendicularly opening panels and four drawers. When one is raised and the other lowered, the panels reveal an elegant interior. This refined detail is further enhanced by marquetry (with sycamore stringing highlighting rectangular motifs) and four interior drawers. The desk rests on eight twisted legs connected by H-shaped stretchers.

- This stately piece is distinguished by its marquetry work, which features a variety of diamond and rectangular patterns, as well as by the diversity of wood species used—more than six have been identified.

- Wood in good condition, base added later.

- Dimensions: Height: 80.5 cm, Width: 98 cm, Depth: 62.5 cm
