Important Napoleon III Period Fireplace Set, Signed Henry Dasson (1825–1896)

Artist: Henry Dasson 1825-1896
A superb mantel clock set in finely chased and mercury-gilded bronze, signed Henry Dasson, one of the greatest Parisian bronze casters of the second half of the 19th century, renowned for the exceptional quality of his Louis XVI-inspired works. The set comprises a clock flanked by two three-light candelabra, forming a perfectly balanced and richly decorated ensemble. The clock, architecturally designed, rests on a granite marble base adorned with garlands, acanthus leaves, and beaded friezes. The enamel dial with Roman numerals is signed Henry Dasson in Paris. The suspended movement is of high quality. The top is surmounted by a covered vase with handles, an emblematic motif of the Neo-Louis XVI repertoire. The matching candelabra are supported by graceful patinated bronze figures of children holding flowering branches that form the candle arms. They also rest on marble bases, creating a perfect harmony with the central clock. Parisian work of great mastery, characterized by extremely fine chasing, luminous gilding and luxurious execution, typical of high-end productions intended for the aristocracy and upper middle class of the 19th century.
