Pair Of Volkstedt Porcelain Sweetmeat Figures, Thuringia, C.1880
An attractive pair of antique German porcelain sweetmeat figures representing a boy and a girl as harvest gatherers, attributed to Volkstedt, Thuringia, circa 1880. Each figure supports a sweetmeat bowl formed as a stylised tree stump with applied foliage and floral decoration. The figures stand on rococo-style bases and are fully hand painted in soft polychrome enamels. Volkstedt was well known in this period for its sculptural porcelain, and complete matching pairs are now increasingly difficult to obtain.
