Reclining Meissen porcelain figurine, designed to hold salt or pepper. “Lady on a Bowl” (Dame an Schale) model created by Johann Joachim Kaendler around 1762, with blue onion-pattern decoration. Marked with crossed blue swords and numbered 2875. Made as a pair with the “ on a Bowl” figurine numbered 2872. Professionally restored at one joint. Listed in the Meissen–Bergman catalog.
The onion-pattern decoration was invented by Meissen; its success was such that it was adopted by many manufacturers throughout Europe.
