Royal Copenhagen - No 464 Sculpin- Rare Fish
A rare porcelain figurine from the Royal Copenhagen Manufactory depicting a bottom-dwelling fish, "The Bullhead" (Sculpin), a subject uncommon in the factory's production. The sculpture, particularly naturalistic, highlights the animal's characteristic posture resting on the seabed, with its broad pectoral fins extended. The paintwork, with its subtle gradations of blue and gray, finely renders the smooth, moist appearance of the skin, while the expressive gaze lends the piece a remarkable presence. The reverse bears the registered trademark "blue waves" of 1923, a green stamp beneath the glaze. A crown and the inscription "ROYAL COPENHAGEN DENMARK" are also present. The absence of scratches attests to its exceptional quality. A rare decorative piece, highly sought after by collectors of Scandinavian porcelain and Royal Copenhagen marine animal figurines. Length 19 cm, width 10.5 cm
