Contemporary School : "bust Of Julius Caesar Laurus"
Contemporary School: "Bust of Julius Caesar with Laureate Crown," patinated black cement, 48 x 28 x 24 cm, titled and monogrammed on the back, minor chips.
Extremely decorative, but very heavy!
This is the first time I've encountered this material: I've often worked with terracotta, plaster, marble, bronze, spelter, stone, etc., but I was surprised that a sculptor would choose cement, probably mixed with resin.
I think the dark patina, which gives it the appearance of bronze, and the choice of this material likely intended this life-size sculpture for outdoor use.
Although it comes from Belgium, its origin is believed to be Toulouse, but I haven't been able to identify the sculptor.
