Large oil on canvas depicting a romantic scene of two elegant 18th-century women wearing beautiful taffeta and lace gowns, one engrossed in reading a letter, the other lost in thought beside her, in a verdant château park. Dated 1856, it is housed in a gilt-studded wooden frame with medallions and foliage in the corners, dating from the mid-19th century. This painting is in good condition, of superb quality, and highly decorative. Dated lower left.
