An icon depicting Saint John the Forerunner standing, in the traditional pose of the “Pointer of the Way”. The saint holds a scroll with the Gospel text: “I have seen and borne witness that This is the Lamb of God.”
Inscription in ustav script, gilded halo, and an elongated composition typical of panels intended for a small domestic iconostasis or a diptych.
Very good condition: stable paint layer, well-preserved gilding, minor wear on the edges, solid panel with its original cross-bars.
A finely executed icon, representative of Russian workshop production of the late 19th century.
