"Louis Lacuria, The Rock"
Circa 1845 - Black chalk. Titled in the center and signed with the artist's initials in the lower left. Pyrographed and painted wooden frame with floral decoration. A student and great admirer of the renowned French Neoclassical painter Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, Louis Lacuria also studied under Pierre Révoil, Victor Orsel, Vincent Périn, and Alphonse Périn. His work, particularly his portraits, is characterized by rigorous drawing, a delicate touch, and a meticulous study of nature. His well-known piety influenced his artistic approach. He also taught art in Oullins until his death. His brother, Paul François Gaspard Lacuria, was a priest and mystical writer. This small study testifies to the artist's interest in the Lyon landscape.
