Russian Gilt Copper Kovsh, Cloisonné Enamels On Filigree — Late 19th Century, Decorated With Birds And Butterflies
Russian Kovsh 19th century, gilt copper with cloisonné enamels and filigree, in the style of the imperial Moscow workshops, evoking Ovchinnikov and Khlebnikov, polychrome naturalistic decoration.
The decoration is exquisitely displayed on all sides: birds, butterflies, flowering branches, and rows of billets, all rendered in a vibrant and contrasting palette.
The object's elegance stems from the rich cloisonné enamel ornamentation on exceptionally fine filigree. It is the work of a luxury craft workshop at the end of the 19th century.
Very good condition — enamels intact, very little wear to the gilding.
No visible hallmark (probably a private workshop).
A rare, decorative, and collectible piece for lovers of Russian art and cloisonné enamels.
Dimensions:
Height: 12 cm
Side: 6.5 cm
Weight : 176 grams
Even without a hallmark, this very tight and twisted, dense gold filigree work, with 'fan'-shaped plant motifs, points to a group of well-known workshops:
* anonymous Moscow workshops of the late 19th century
* Caucasian workshops (Baku, Tbilisi) working for Russian and European clients
* Old Believer workshops, whose filigree tradition is ancient.
