"André Collin - Portrait Of A Young Italian Woman"
André COLLIN, Spa, 1862 – Brussels, 1930 Portrait of a Young Italian Woman Oil on canvas 57.5 x 41 cm (64 x 47.5 cm with frame) Signed lower right “A. Collin” Titled upper right “REGINA” Very good condition Beautiful 19th-century giltwood frame A Belgian painter and student of Jean-François Portaels at the Brussels Academy, André Collin later went to Paris where he studied with Jules Lefebvre and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français. He received an honorable mention there in 1890. Our painting is a portrait of a model, “Regina,” a young Italian woman wearing beautiful jewelry. Perhaps intended for a larger composition. The modeling of this young woman is exquisite, enhanced by the contrast between the magnificent golden yellow of the background and the light color of her flesh tones. A very luminous painting with beautiful flat areas of white for the costume and very beautiful colors, especially the blue of the dress and the golden yellow of the jewelry and background.
