"Edouard Chapallaz - Oxblood Red Ceramic Vase"
Stoneware vase with oxblood red glaze by Edouard Chapallaz. Edouard Chapallaz (1921-2016) was a Swiss ceramicist born in Yverdon. Trained at the Swiss School of Ceramics in Chavannes, he initially worked in the ceramics industry before dedicating himself fully to his studio in Duillier. He is renowned for his research on stoneware and high-temperature glazes, inspired by Chinese masters, and for building his own kilns, enabling complex firing processes. He created timeless vases and sculptural works, both wheel-thrown and hand-built. His minimalist forms, with their taut, refined lines, sometimes evoke the ancient arts of the Cyclades. Chapallaz exhibited in Switzerland, France, Germany, and abroad. He received several international awards and left a major legacy in contemporary ceramics, valuing the material and the purity of form.
