Paul Herman (1873-1903)
A sculptor from Liège, came from an important dynasty of sculptors and ornamentalists. He was one of the promising young talents in sculpture and decorative arts in Belgium at the end of the 19th century. Trained in the family workshop, he developed a practice that blended statuary, bas-relief, and architectural decoration, while also creating numerous applied art objects (vases, lamps, jewelry, decorative items) perfectly aligned with the emerging aesthetic of Art Nouveau, which valued the renewal of forms and the unity of the arts. Despite a short career, he left behind several notable works, including a funerary mausoleum in Huy, ornamental fireplaces, and various sculptures of female figures. His work, although discreet on the art market, testifies to a talent and decorative sensitivity characteristic of Liège Art Nouveau.
