Georges de Feure (1868–1943), born Georges Joseph van Sluÿters, was one of the most refined creators of French Art Nouveau. A painter, decorator, poster artist, and furniture designer, he achieved international renown thanks to his participation in Siegfried Bing's Art Nouveau Pavilion at the 1900 World's Fair. His work, deeply influenced by symbolism, is distinguished by its subtle poetry, ethereal atmospheres, and unique decorative sensibility.

This watercolor, depicting a clearing bathed in diaphanous light, perfectly illustrates this quest for dreamlike atmospheres. Through the delicate interplay of washes, superimposed transparencies, and harmonies of greens and blues, de Feure creates an almost immaterial landscape, where nature seems to awaken in silence.
