FRANÇOIS Joseph (1851-1940), Belgian painter. Charles Joseph François' career began at the 1881 Brussels Salon, where he exhibited ‘Une drève dans la Forêt de Soignes’ (A Drive in the Sonian Forest). He then exhibited at numerous Belgian triennial salons and, from 1885 onwards, at exhibitions organised by the L'Essor artistic circle, of which he was a member. In 1913, his painting ‘End of a Stormy Day in Campine’ won him a silver medal at the Salon des Artistes Français. His work mainly covers landscapes, seascapes, harbour views and genre scenes.
