François Desnoyer (1894-1975),French painter. In 1913, he moved to Paris to pursue his studies, attending the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs and studied with Antoine Bourdelle.During the First World War, he was wounded three times and taken prisoner. During his captivity, he continued to draw. From the1920-30, he quickly won awards and distinctions, which made him to the general public. In 1945, Desnoyer discovered the Mediterranean. He was immediately seduced by the light and colors of the region. Mediterranean landscapes became a major source of inspiration. He was also a talented portraitist. In 1975, the Fondation François Desnoyer was created in Saint-Cyprien. Its mission is to preserveand disseminate the artist's work. Desnoyer is considered one of the most important painters of the second half of the 20th century.
