Antoine Vollon (1833–1900),a French realist painter, classified among the Pre-Impressionists.Antoine Vollon began his career in Lyon, where he learned metal engraving and attended the Beaux-Arts. The artist then mastered oil painting and developed an interest in etching. He quickly developed a particular interest in still lifes. Mentioned by Émile Zola, a friend of AlexandreDumas, fils, Antoine then stayed in Trouville before eventually settling in1863—the year of his marriage—in Mers-les-Bains (Somme). In 1882, he left the house to his son Alexis Vollon (1865–1945), also a painter and a Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1900. His works are now on display in museums around the world (Amsterdam, London, Washington, D.C., New York,Boston…), with some in France at the Musée d’Orsay.
