Ciboure Pottery : "kingfisher Vase"
Ciboure Pottery : "Kingfisher Vase," painted ceramic with highlights of glossy white glaze, 18 x 14 cm.
Slight firing flaw on one side of the body, below the bird's beak.
Superb model from the Etienne Vilotte period, circa 1925/30.
Another example, with a light background (unlike our "burnt bread" vase), was featured in the magnificent 2020 exhibition at the Basque Museum in Bayonne.
Rare: white glazes in relief were quickly abandoned.
