"Antoine Louis Barye - English Basset "
Sculpture in very good condition, bronze with a brown patina. Signed "Barye" (after) on the base with the foundry mark "F. Barbedienne Fondeur" and engraving no. 43 CC on the reverse.
The Barbedienne casting allows for an excellent rendering of the subject.
The sculpture, "The English Basset Hound," is among Barye's notable works.
Antoine-Louis Barye (1796–1875) was a French sculptor and painter, famous for his animal works with remarkable realism and expressiveness. He is considered one of the greatest masters of 19th-century animal sculpture.
