Born in Aix-en-Provence, Louis Leydet was a close friend of Paul Cézanne. He was supported early on by the Master, who recognized the quality of his painting very early on. In 1902, in a letter to Charles Camoin, Cézanne wrote: "I received news from Claude Monet and a postcard from Louis Leydet, son of the Senator of Aix. The latter shares the same ideas as you and me. You can see that an era of Art Nouveau is on the horizon." Bibliography: Franck Baille, A Aix, autour de Cézanne, p. 64, 1998.
