"Pair Of Louis XVI Style Neoclassical Wall Sconces – Gilt Bronze And Patinated Bronze – 19th Century"
An elegant pair of Louis XVI style neoclassical wall sconces, dating from the 19th century, in chased and gilded bronze. The bronzes retain their original gilding, which has a beautiful sheen, highlighting the quality of the bronze. Each sconce is surmounted by a knotted ribbon, an emblematic motif of 18th-century decorative vocabulary. At the base of this ribbon is inserted a delicate bouquet of small bronze roses with a brown patina, providing a refined contrast between the warmth of the gilding and the depth of the dark patina. The three elegantly scrolled arms of the lights are decorated with acanthus leaves. The cups and sockets feature a classic design of pearls, acanthus leaves, and stylized water leaves. These arms originate from a tapered sheath stylized in the shape of a quiver adorned with fluted edges, terminating in a vegetal motif combining foliage and berries. A harmonious, decorative, and high-quality set. In very good overall condition, with no missing parts, some threads replaced, and the electrical wiring is functional.
