Jean Lurçat - Sant Vicens Ceramic Plate - Rooster Sant Vicens ceramic plate – Design by Jean Lurçat – “Rooster” – 1964 Polychrome ceramic plate featuring a stylized rooster design, an emblematic motif in Jean Lurçat's graphic universe. The composition is executed in broad glazed areas in shades of bright orange, honey, and deep green, typical of the productions of the Sant Vicens workshop in Perpignan, known for its close collaboration with modern artists. On the reverse, the piece is marked: “Design J. Lurçat – Sant Vicens – 64,” guaranteeing a faithful reproduction of the motifs created by the artist in the 1960s. Please note a slight chip (see photo). This piece is a fine example of the post-war revival of French ceramics, combining modern design with artisanal expertise. The Sant Vicens workshop, founded in 1942, developed a fruitful collaboration with Jean Lurçat, a leading figure in the revival of French tapestry, from the 1950s onwards. Numerous decorative objects, plaques, plates, and tiles were created from his designs, featuring bold colors and a graphic style instantly recognizable. These pieces can be seen at the Galerie Courcelles Antiquités, 97 rue de Courcelles, in the 17th arrondissement of Paris.
