Allegory Of Happiness, 20th Century
Description:
Cast iron, gilded with 24k gold leaf.
These three statues, with their symbolist design, represent the allegory of happiness of Asian origin.
Originally, they were three monkeys, one covering its eyes, the second its ears, and the third its mouth. Speak no evil, see no evil, hear no evil! (The allegory addresses the perception of evil). The excellent design utilizes the granite-like texture of the cast iron, giving these works a mineral appearance.
The use of cast iron (melted at 1250°C) for sculptures with such intricate details is an astonishing technical challenge.
Condition:
Excellent condition, no cracks. Gold leaf gilding has been applied to enhance the texture of the "skin" of these statues.
Dimensions:
Height: 29 cm x 29 cm, base: 9 cm x 9 cm.
Ref 3736 / 15 kg , / 2200
