Richly inlaid with two types of wood, mahogany and lemonwood, in the style of Jean Bérain, this Baroque piece features cherubs on scrolls and an ornamented central enphora surrounded by floral scrolls and elongated motifs on all sides. A prodigious and precise work in the purest ornamental style of the "Grand Siècle," this lockable piece, in very good condition, rests on four square, flared feet. The back is a trompe-l'oeil replica of the front, with its false keyhole escutcheon where scrolls emerge from dogs with branches in their jaws. On both sides are majestic emphorae within beautifully sculpted cartouches. A meticulously crafted and highly decorative box in very good condition and of a good size. A precious piece, this beautiful casket is a work from the time of Charles X, a period when this rich and ornate style, characterized by its elaborate elegance, reached its zenith.
