First Empire Mirror Or Door Top: Leda, Cupid And His Bow, And The Swan, Stuccoed Wood, 19
Artist: Non Signé
This beautiful high-relief woodwork element, presented in a generous oval medallion encircled by a large stucco bead on a panel constructed of assembled wood with a cornice, forms the top of a door or mirror from the First Empire period. This was an era when the theme of Leda and the swan guided by Cupid was a favorite subject in Ancient Mythology. Surrounded by beautiful cabochons, this elegant "Neoclassical" scene has everything to charm with its quality, detail, and composition. With a ground gold and old yellow background against a cream reserve on the margins, this easily placed decorative element, of modest proportions, has everything to captivate with its symbolism and the quality of the subject, executed at the very beginning of the 19th century in the purest style, that of Josephine de Beauharnais. A beautiful, complete piece in good condition, perfect for a carefully chosen, elegantly classic decor.
