Kilim Gashghaï Kashkuli Iran 240 X 162 Cm
Iranian kilim from the Fars region (southwest Iran), wool, circa 1960. Very good condition.
Three original medallions stand out against a plain red 'kafzade' (kafzade) and abrache* background. A wide beige border features a stylized floral motif. An 'Aleh abassi' (tulip border) border frames the rug. Two colored bands finish this beautiful Kashkuli kilim on either side.
*Abrache: a term describing a variation of tones within the same color.
The Gashghai confederation comprises various tribes. Some examples include the Bozorg Kashkuli (the tall ones), the Kuchek Kashkuli (the short ones), the Shishboluki (six districts), and the Amaleh or Yalameh (workers, servants of the Khan).
