Patriotic Automaton Clock With Music Box And Snuffbox, 1870-1871 War
Patriotic clock with a music box. The case is carved and painted wood, decorated in the French tricolor, and surmounted by a terracotta tobacco jar adorned with three caricatured, grimacing heads. The lid of the tobacco jar bears the inscription "We will retake Alsace and Lorraine." The tobacco jar has a mechanism independent of the clock. A commemorative medal is affixed to the front of the case, along with a bar inscribed "1870-1871" and "Never Forget." Both the tobacco jar and music box mechanisms are functional. Total height: 50 cm; Width: 23.9 cm; Depth: 11.6 cm; Tobacco jar diameter: 13 cm; height: 22.5 cm. Minor damage and missing parts.
