A rare and charming piece of furniture, now seldom seen on the market, this Provençal walnut cabinet is of exceptional quality; one could even call it craftsmanship.
The front opens with a gendarme's hat-shaped glazed door featuring four original panes of glass, like a small window, revealing intricately carved shelves and a lower drawer.
It has retained its original bubbled glass. It boasts a substantial, finely molded, and very boldly designed gendarme's hat-shaped cornice.
This cornice is removable. Below, the crossbar is carved with a floral basket and foliate scrolls.
The distinctive feature of this crossbar is the exceptional quality of the carving, with a prominent fruit basket.
The drawer and the lower crossbar are carved with quivers of acanthus leaves and floral motifs, as well as a bouquet of roses in the center.
The uprights are very bold and also carved with floral swags.
Long, with wheat sprouts above the feet, ending in small shell or snail feet resting on tiny hooves. Above the shells are stylized wheat sprouts.
The sides are flat or slanted with beautiful walnut panels.
The backs are original.
Superb blond walnut patina, a warm, waxed blond patina.
No wood-boring insect infestation to report, but a preventative treatment has been carried out in the workshop.
A charming piece of furniture to place on a surface or hang on the wall.
Originally, this type of furniture was intended to hold fine glassware. Nowadays, it can easily be repurposed as a display cabinet for a collection or a small bookcase, etc.
