Table With A System Forming Reading Table With Double Lectern, Maison Dupont In Paris, 19th Century
A walnut reading table with a double lectern, dating from the mid-19th century. The table rests on a cross-shaped base weighted with three cast iron plates, ensuring excellent stability. Small casters allow for easy movement. An ingenious tilting mechanism allows the tabletop to be tilted to either side of the base, as well as to slide to the right or left. The angle of inclination can also be adjusted as needed using a tightening screw. Two rods hold the book or document being consulted in place. These rods are removable (see photo 8, red arrows: rods held in place for use as a lectern, or rods folded under the tabletop and held by a hook for use as a regular table). Finally, the height of this table is also adjustable and can range from approximately 80 cm to 111 cm. Originally designed for reading, this table can also be used perfectly for eating in bed or on a sofa, etc. Made by Dupont in Paris.
