Manganese-tinted Blown Glass Vase Decorated With Lion Masks, 18th Century, Bordeaux
A manganese-tinted blown glass vase, slender and baluster-shaped, resting on a wide, circular foot with a rounded rim decorated with radiating gadroons. The entire surface is adorned with fine, regular helical striations created by hot twisting. On either side of the body are two elegant lion heads with stylized manes, applied in high relief. The slightly concave foot bears a pontil mark in the center, amidst concentric undulations. The glass is very dark, almost black, with violet reflections. Likely produced in Bordeaux in the late 18th century, around 1780-1790. Dimensions: height 22 cm - diameter of the foot 9 cm. A very fine example in excellent condition.
