Paule and Max Ingrand – A major 20th-century decorative artist couple Max Ingrand (1908–1969) was one of the greatest French stained-glass artists and decorators of the 20th century. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he created numerous stained-glass windows for religious and civic buildings, both in France and abroad, and collaborated with the leading architects of his time.
Alongside him, Paule Ingrand (1910–1997), an artist trained in drawing and painting, played a vital role in the couple's creative process. Together, they signed their creations with the name “PM Ingrand,” an abbreviation of their two first names. Their style, a blend of Art Deco and Modernism, is distinguished by its decorative elegance and symbolic iconography: horsemen, angels, musicians, and allegories. After Max's death, Paule continued her artistic work alone. Her personal works—drawings, gouaches, and decorative projects—reveal a more intimate and spiritual expression, where gesture becomes meditation. In them, she explores light, color, and form as vehicles for emotion and transcendence.
