Zush - Fuckface - 1989 - Erotic Work In Relief With Collages - Galerie Von Scholz Brussels
Artist: Zush ( 1946 ) Alberto Porta Y Munoz
Title : Fuckface
Artist : Zush (Alberto Porta y Muñoz, born 1946)
Year : 1989
Technique: Unique original mixed-media painting on paper, entirely hand-enhanced with raised pieces (gouache, ink, fabric, applied elements, raised metal outlines, volume cabochons and eyes, 3D glued upper mask)
Work size: 30 × 22 cm
Dimensions with frame: 47 × 37 cm (burgundy lacquered wood frame, cream passe-partout, museum presentation)
Description of work
This unique original painting is a powerful and provocative masterpiece by Zush.
Fuckface unfurls a surreal anthropomorphic face in warm yellow-orange hues. The biomorphic elements are exceptionally strong: the eyes are represented as breasts, the nose as a phallus, the mouth sensual red. The whole is underlined by raised metal contours that give the piece a truly sculptural and tactile dimension.
At the top, a small mask in fabric and paint, with expressive features and black tears, is glued in three dimensions, reinforcing the totemic, living character of the work. Reliefs, cabochons, exposed seams and metal inlays transform this painting into a hybrid sculpture-painting, sensual and hypnotic.
This is a unique original painting, entirely worked and enhanced by hand by the artist with multiple elements in physical relief. This type of mixed-media piece, both painted and sculptural, is particularly rare in Zush's output and testifies to his most inventive and personal practice.
The artist : ZushZush (Alberto Porta y Muñoz, born 1946)
is one of the most original and visionary Spanish artists of his generation.
Early in the 1960s, he developed a radically personal plastic universe, populated by hybrid faces, sexual symbols and a powerful intimate mythology. His work, somewhere between art brut, surrealism and psychedelia, is characterized by its erotic intensity, symbolic charge and total refusal of artistic conventions.
Eveugo Mental StateOn the reverse is the red stamp "MENTAL ESTATE EVRUGO". This is the artist's personal seal, authenticating the work as fully belonging to his mental universe. "Eveugo" (or Evrugo) refers to the altered state of consciousness and parallel world Zush has been building throughout his career.
This stamp gives Fuckface an almost sacred dimension: it's not just a painting, but a living fragment of the Eveugo Mental State, his intimate, infinite territory.
Provenance: Galerie Camille von Scholz - Editions Camomille, Brussels (original label on reverse) + Mental Estate Evrugo stamp by the artist.
