Antique Vietnamese Solid Silver Wedding Purse Frame With Dragons & Longevity/good Fortune

A superb Vietnamese solid silver openwork wedding purse frame, dating to the late 19th – early 20th century. This finely crafted piece is decorated with two confronting dragons amid swirling clouds, executed in extremely detailed pierced silverwork.

Each side features a different central Sino-Vietnamese auspicious character:

• 壽 (Thọ / Shou) — Longevity

• 福 (Phúc / Fu) — Good fortune

These motifs are traditionally associated with marriage, blessings, and prosperity, and are characteristic of high-quality silversmithing from Tonkin (Northern Vietnam).

The frame retains its original twisted silver chain, and the hinge and clasp are beautifully made by hand. The workmanship throughout is of a very high standard, far superior to typical export examples.
