Antique Japanese bronze vase designed for ikebana (traditional Japanese flower arranging), dating from the Meiji period (1868–1912).
This refined vessel is cast in bronze and formed in imitation of a woven basket, a decorative motif widely favoured in late 19th-century Japanese metalwork and inspired by bamboo flower baskets traditionally used for ikebana. The surface displays finely modelled basket-weave texture, complemented by applied twin loop handles and a pierced footed base.
The vase measures 25.5 cm in height and offers a strong sculptural presence while remaining elegant and well balanced. It was intended both as a functional flower vessel and as a decorative object for display in a tokonoma or interior setting.
The vase retains its original metal inner liner, as commonly found with ikebana flower vessels of this type.
Good condition, with an attractive original patina and light, honest wear consistent with age. No cracks or repairs observed.
A fine example of Meiji-period Japanese decorative art, suitable for collectors of Japanese metalwork or ikebana-related objects.
