Chinese Lacquer Cabinet, 18th Century
Elegant rectangular Chinese lacquer cabinet from the 18th century, decorated with polychrome scenes in fine gold on a red background, depicting pavilions animated by figures and stylized vegetation. The surface of the cabinet is finely decorated with meticulous details: oriental architecture and elegant figures, including horsemen.
The front opens with two doors revealing an interior with twelve compartments and drawers, also decorated with stylized foliage and gilded birds on a black background.
Dimensions: Height 48.5 cm; Width 54 cm; Depth 54 cm.
Base: Height 74.5 cm; Width 62 cm; Depth 41 cm.
The cabinet rests on a carved and gilded wooden base in the Regency style, made at a later date. This base, adapted to the size and style of the cabinet, enhances the piece by giving it height and presence, in keeping with the common practice in aristocratic interiors of the 18th and 19th c enturies.
