Bronze And Marble Clock, Depicting A Knight In Armor, After Jean-françois Gechter
An imposing patinated and gilt bronze clock with a black marble base, in the Neo-Gothic style, depicting a seated knight in armor, leaning on a shield that serves as the clock face. The piece is richly adorned with medieval military accessories: helmet, breastplate, sword, axes, and draped standards. The exquisite detail of the decoration, particularly the engravings on the breastplate and the modeling of the face, suggests the influence of Jean-François Gechter (1795–1844), a sculptor renowned for his historical and medieval scenes. The movement is signed 1833–52, the bezel is marked H and engraved Mi Lquesne ???. The movement requires restoration. Several parts are missing and need to be reattached or restored (see detailed photos).
