Victorian English Brass-barrel Corkscrew With Bone Handle & Brush, C19th

A Victorian English brass-barrel travelling corkscrew with a turned bone handle and natural bristle brush, dating to the 19th century.

The protective brass barrel is decorated with an applied badge of the British Royal Coat of Arms (“Dieu et mon droit”), a motif commonly found on mid-Victorian metalwork. The turned bone handle is fitted with a bristle brush for cleaning the top of the bottle before opening. The steel shaft is of spiral form, and the exposed open-worm screw is typical of English examples from the mid–late 19th century.

A classic and attractive English corkscrew of the period, both functional and decorative.
