French Restauration Period Bronze Column Lamp By Gotten, Paris, C.1830

Patinated bronze table lamp in the form of a fluted column, by the Parisian maker Gotten, Place des Victoires No.1, early 19th century (Restauration period, circa 1830).

The lamp is modelled as a slender fluted column with a rich dark patina, rising from an ornate circular base with anthemion and palmette ornament. The capital is decorated with bold scrolling acanthus and beaded mouldings, above a square plinth. The stepped base is framed with a fine frieze of rosettes and foliage in relief.

To the front of the base is the original applied plaque, finely engraved:
“PLACE DES VICTOIRES N°1 / GOTTEN / INVENTEUR BREVETÉ”, identifying the Parisian bronzier and patented inventor.

Now fitted for electricity with a later bulb holder (shade not included). A very handsome decorative lamp that reads as a miniature architectural column, typical of refined Restauration taste.

Height of bronze only (excluding light fitting): 51 cm.

Good condition, with wear, rubbing and surface marks consistent with age and use; old patina preserved.
