Pair Of Large Candelabra "with Winged Putti" Empire Period Early 19th Century
A pair of large, three-light candelabra with winged putti, in gilt and patinated bronze, Empire period, early 19th century. The putti, with a brown patina, each hold a crown of water lilies from which spring three delicately chased, spiraling arms of acanthus leaves and florets, centered by a flaming torch. In their other hands, they hold a gilt bronze laurel branch. Each putto has one foot resting on a gilt bronze sphere atop a richly chased cylindrical shaft decorated with florets, acanthus leaves, and gadroons, terminating in a square base. The mercury gilding retains its original double patina and brown patina, and is in very good condition, having been cleaned by our workshop (minor wear, laurel branches previously regilded). A Parisian piece from the Empire period, of remarkable finesse, reminiscent of the workshops of the great bronze casters of that era.
