A "briquet" infantry saber of the Imperial Guard, Grenadier model 1804, First Empire. The single-branch brass hilt bears two hallmarks and the marking "Versailles." It features a short-tailed pommel, a wooden grip covered in calfskin with remnants of double braided brass wire wrapping, and a brass ferrule with "Gr" hallmarks for Grenadier. The blade has fullers and hallmarks of "M" surmounted by a star, and the other hallmark is almost completely worn away. It measures 69.5 cm in length, 3.7 cm in width at the ricasso, and 1 cm in thickness. The blade is signed on the back: "Manufacture Impériale de Klingenthal Coulaux Frères". The black varnished leather scabbard has two brass mounts and a chape with a pyramid-shaped base, specific to the Imperial Guard. Wooden hilt covered in calfskin with brass wire inlay (wire inlay partially missing). Length of the weapon: 85.5 cm. Good condition. France. First Empire.
