Jules Vandercruyce was a sea captain, appointed inspector for the Lloyd's Company for the Bordeaux maritime district by a committee decision of May 11, 1871.
Author of numerous books on the navy, he may have covered Asian conflicts such as the Sepoy Rebellion and the Boxer Rebellion.
This is a unique piece that was probably originally part of a set of other dishes depicting different episodes of this conflict.
