Art Deco Cigarette Holder Made Of Agate And Solid Gold With Enamel, Paris, 1925, Coco Chanel
Artist: Jacques Duriez Orfèvre à Paris
Cigarette holder dating from the Art Deco period, circa 1925, consisting of a carved agate or chalcedony shaft and an 18-karat solid gold mouthpiece enamelled in red and set with a black cabochon.
Hallmark featuring an eagle’s head and the goldsmith Jacques Duriez’s mark—consisting of the letters J and D surrounding a painter’s palette.
This goldsmith worked in Paris starting in 1921 at 39 Rue Sainte-Croix de la Bretonnerie.
This beautiful object comes from a Breton estate but was once in Paris; this cigarette holder was accompanied by a wallet from the Desprez house on Rue Saint-Honoré in Paris and a retractable comb, both bearing labels indicating their provenance as Coco Chanel* on Rue Cambon in Paris’s 1st arrondissement (these items are being sold separately in another listing); unfortunately, neither the heirs nor I have any additional information to establish a connection with the famous fashion designer. (See last photo.)
Gross weight: 15.90 grams.
Shipping available via Chronopost or Colissimo for:
