Artist: René Paul Marquet (1875-1939)
A refined Art Deco sculpture, circa 1910-20, in finely chased bronze with a golden patina, signed R. MARQUET on the base (René Paul Marquet, 1875-1939, studied at the École des Beaux-Arts with Falguière and exhibited at the Salon from 1909 onwards; he is known for his Art Nouveau style evolving towards Art Deco). A beautiful allegorical composition featuring a nude female figure adorned with flowers and fruit, symbolizing the goddess Pomona, with sensual and refined forms influenced by classical art (a rare model in the artist's oeuvre). The cubic base is made of black Portoro marble veined with sinuous lines of "Sienna Yellow" gold. Good overall condition, some wear to the gilding. Dimensions: 37.5 cm high x 11 cm wide.
