Souvenir of the Grand Tour – patinated bronze bust after the Antique, mounted on a triangular marble base engraved with "POMPEI," Neapolitan work, late 19th–early 20th century, Neapolitan foundry near Chiurazzi. An evocative and rare piece, typical of sales to travelers in Pompeii/Herculaneum. Bronze bust with a beautiful dark brown patina, representing Antinous/Bacchus in bust form, with a dynamic modeling, detailed locks of hair, and a sketched chest; antique mounting on a veined yellow marble base, carved in a truncated pyramid shape, the front engraved with "POMPEI" and highlighted with gold. A souvenir cast known as a Grand Tour, attributed to a Neapolitan manufactory active around 1880–1900, near or by the Fonderia Artistica Chiurazzi. The object encapsulates the emotion of the archaeological discoveries of the late 19th century. Bronze with workshop marks and slight spots of old oxidation, homogeneous and stable patina; Small period mounting/ventilation hole on the side; marble base with minor wear, chips, and an old dent visible on the edges, polished surface, fixing not visible, original patina.
