"A Six-panel Folding Screen Of Symbolic Animals And Peonies"
A six-panel folding screen with applied paper on a ground of gold and silver leaf, featuring six motifs inspired by traditional Japanese symbolism. From left to right can be seen: two turtles along a stream; peonies with butterflies in flight; a deer illuminated by the moon beside a watercourse; and a pheasant perched on a pine branch. These are followed by a group of fish swimming upstream and, finally, a Manchurian crane next to the long signature (Eishunsai) Mori Yōshin (1736–1808).
Period: Edo, early 19th century.
Dimensions: 173 x 368.5 cm.
Condition: The screen is in excellent condition. Minor wear, restorations or small imperfections may be present, consistent with the age.
