Louis XVI Commode In Solid Wood, Southwest Region, 18th Century, Wooden Top
A rare Louis XVI commode in natural waxed wood, concave in its upper section. It rests on four tapered legs. All four uprights are fluted and curved at the top. The front features four drawers in three rows; the top row has two drawers, also curved and separated by a fluted divider. All drawer fronts are finished with a flat band and adorned with ring-shaped pulls. Three of the four drawers have locks, all of which are functional. Only two keys are provided, as one locks the two top drawers. The keys are original. Our drawers slide perfectly. The sides of our chest of drawers are divided into three flat-edged panels, the top one being curved. It is topped with a solid wood slab adorned with a molding around its edge. Note a slight warp on the slab, some traces of woodworm, and minor wear at two keyholes (see photos), all due to use and age, without any impact on the aesthetics of this undeniably charming piece. Very fine regional work (probably from the southwest) from the late 18th, very early 19th century. Dimensions: height 84 cm, length 112 cm, depth 57 cm. Shipping costs by carrier: please contact us.
