Longwy Enamel Vase In The Chinese Style, Decorated By Maurice-paul Chevallier, Mid-20th Century
A lovely Chinese-inspired vase in cobalt blue earthenware with polychrome cloisonné enamel medallions featuring a floral design.
The body is quadrangular with arched shoulders, and the flared neck is highlighted with a gilt band.
The stylized side handles are elephant heads with crackled gilt rings, contrasting against the blue background.
A stamped mark under the base indicates a "Renaissance" decoration by Maurice-Paul Chevallier (1892-1987), who was Artistic Director of the Longwy Faience and Enamel Works from 1931.
The monogram of the enhancer (JM for Justin Masson) is also inscribed.
