Jean-baptiste Camille Corot "confidences By The Pond At Dawn"
Artist: Jean-baptiste Camille Corot
Oil on canvas, "Confidences by the Pond at Dawn," bears a signature lower left: Corot. French School. 32.5 x 24 cm. Collector's stamp on the reverse of one of the stretcher bars. Pencil annotation on another bar indicates that the painting was part of the M. Verty collection. Tension strips appear to have been positioned to allow for a full view of the work, which had previously been clumsily cut and seems to have been left unstretched for a time. This mounting, as well as the stretcher and canvas, are contemporary with the materials used by Corot in his time. Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot (1796-1875) needs no introduction; his contribution to the artistic revolution of the 19th century is fundamental. The qualities of our painting are undeniable; the spontaneity of the brushstrokes and the use of a soft palette masterfully reflect the artist's talent and strongly suggest the hand of the Barbizon master. Contemporary gilt wood and stucco frame. Good condition. 5800 euros
