Light Cavalry Senior Officer's Sabre

Luxurious light cavalry senior officer's saber.
The guard has a rounded single branch ending in a downward-curving, ball-shaped quillon. It is entirely carved with acanthus leaves. The rectangular knuckle guard is decorated with floral motifs. The quillon is shield-shaped. The pommel has a short tail in the form of a lion's head. The tail of the pommel is decorated with scales and a cobweb.
The grip is made of finely checkered ebony. All surfaces are finely burnished.
The curved blade has a single fuller, is blued for one-third of its length, and is decorated with floral motifs and gilt trophies. It is in mint condition with its original polish.
The scabbard is richly chased with friezes, floral motifs, and cobwebs characteristic of light cavalry. The suspension rings are decorated with friezes. Brass rings. Asymmetrical brass chape. The reverse of the scabbard is smooth.
This weapon has retained much of its gilding. The reliefs are exceptionally fine. The bluing has a superb depth.
