Line Cavalry Officer's Sabre, Model 1883, France, Third Republic Ww1
A fine Model 1883 line cavalry officer's saber, manufactured at the Châtellerault arms factory in Septembre 1888.
Superb straight blade with a flat back and a fuller, 89 cm long. It is signed on the back "Manufacture d'Armes de Châtellerault Septembe 1888 - Officier de Cavalerie" and bears three proof marks at the ricasso (see photos):
1/ "L" in an oval.
2/ "B" in an oval.
3/ "C" in a lozenge.
Brass officer's line cavalry four branch guard, nicely decorated with palmettes and foliage. Horn grip.
Polished steel scabbard with one suspension ring.
Very good overall condition, with no play between the guard and the blade.
Total length of the saber: 108 cm. Length of the blade alone: 89 cm
